Mike was 4 years old when he got into motocross. His Dad took him to a motocross track and someone happened to be selling a JR50 at the track so his Dad bought it for Mike on the spot. He started riding the bike in the desert until some family friends told him all about motocross racing so Mike started racing around 6 or 7 years old.
What he enjoys most about motocross is their 2-moto format and the fact that each track has different obstacles.
He chose the bike #151 because he was #5 when he first started racing motocross like Mike LaRocco but when he had to pick a 3 digit #, his Dad just slapped on a #1 before the 5 & a #1 after his 5 and that number has stuck with him ever since.
Mike found out about AZ VET from his in-laws that were racing with the club. Mike was actually out with an injury at that time and hadn’t been racing for at least 5 years but when he started going out to watch them race…it gave him the itch to start riding again so he went out and bought a new bike and joined the club too.
The very first time that Mike raced with the club was at the 2023 AZ VET International race at Motoland. What he remembers most about that race is how excited he was that Sunday got rained out because he was extremely sore & completely worn out since it was the first time he had raced in 5 years.
When I asked Mike how competitive he is when it comes to racing motocross, he said he was an 8 because he still loves to battle & win but he also knows that if he’s just not feeling the groove that day…he is OK with back it down to stay safe & be able to go to work on Monday.
